How can i make a home phone system using an old pc and some spare phones and our LAN ?

Posted on May 13th, 2010 by admin

I have a keen interest in both telephone systems and IT so just more for interest than anything else i would like to make a phone system that would let me make internal calls and external calls using an old pc and existing land-line phones over the lan any info would be greatly appreciated.

take a look at http://www.asterisk.org/ it is a software PBX that you can install on your old PC… you may however need to get some cards to interface with the telephones….

it does everything that a phone system does, so calling internally between phones would be possible… but not only that, you could set up SIP service and be able to call out with it as well…

I have not yet tinkered with it yet, so the fourms on the website should be able to assist you further…

What is the best small business phone system with voice recognition?

Posted on May 11th, 2010 by admin

I’m looking for a phone system that has voice recognition features to have installed in my accounting office. We’ll need about 9 phones and it needs to be relatively easy to set up.

Thank you!

From my personal experience, I have found the system manufactured by Schmooze to be rather solid. Their web site is http://www.schmoozecom.com and they sold me a system a year ago with voice recognition. It was all for under $5K for my office and their support is pretty good. They seem like an up and coming company, so time will tell. Give them a call though.

I told my current employer that I would shave my head and beard off when the new phone system was officially LIVE. The original live date was December 1, 2007. The actual live date was February 5, 2008.

This video documents the special event.

How do I wire a cordless phone system with 2 phone numbers?

Posted on May 8th, 2010 by admin

At my office, I have two phone numbers. Both lines are currently going through a Avaya PBX system. I want to get rid of the PBX and go to a 2-line cordless 6.0 DECT phone system. Do I have to run both phone lines to the cordless phone base?

wire line 1 to green/red (blue/white)
wire line 2 to yellow/black (orange/white)

if you are getting rid of the system remove the lines from the system, and find out what station (extention) you want to connect the DECT phone, then just wire line 1 + 2 as mentioned above… (there should be no need to do any rewiring of the jack, everything should be able to be done right from where your existing phone system is at…

What is the best multiple cordless phone system for a residence?

Posted on May 5th, 2010 by admin

I have a large house that is served by two old cordless phones. A typical problem is that when a call comes in, by the time I get to one of the phones, the call has gone into voice mail.

I have phone jacks throughout the house, but some of the areas I would like to station a phone are not near a jack.

I don’t need a system with voice mail.

Please advise.

One of the best residential phone on the market right now is the Panasonic DECT 6.0!!
